Russian Music
Russian Music reflects culturally diverse country such as Russia. There are about 150 ethnicity groups in Russia each with unique traditions, culture and forms of music. Initially folk music was mainstream but very quickly Russia adapted to western type of classical music. Peter the Great was admirer of music and invited large group of musician to Russia.
Russia started to produce its own classical music that rivaled western European music in eloquence and symbolism after western music became popular. Right before Bolshevik Revolution many great composers created world class music that is loved by many around the world.
Soviet Union built on traditions of Russian Classical music its own style. Patriotic songs and music was created during Great Patriotic War which is cherished by many Russians as sacrificial music.
Right after collapse of USSR Russian Music was influenced a great deal by modern western music such as pop, jazz, rock, rap and etc… many new Russian singers and bands were popular on stages but few left prominent remembrance of music in the culture. Sadly many great pop-artists tragically ended their careers.
